Independent US label formed in 1955 in LA by Simon Waronker, Alvin Bennett and Theodore Keep. Over the years, via a variety of maneuverers it acquired several other US independent labels including Blue Note, Minit and Aladdin before it too was bought by the parent company of United Artists in 1968, and was folded into that company in 1971. UA was taken over by EMI in 1979.
